Abstract

A simple multilayered plate element combined with a micromechanical analysis of fibrous composite materials is used to investigate an effect of the initial fiber prestress on both the local and the overall response of the laminate. A robust optimization procedure based on evolution strategies is implemented to provide for an optimal fiber prestress. An elastic version of the present optimization procedure has been presented in series of papers of Matous&Sejnoha [1]-[2]. It has been shown that the previously defined constraints guarding the elastic response of laminates during optimization process were to strong to fully utilize a great potential of the fiber tensile strength. In the present formulation these constraints are substantially weakened allowing the matrix phase to undergo an inelastic deformation. In the present formulation we limit our attention to loading rates which promote inelastic deformation independent of time so that the inelastic part is represented by a plastic strain only.
